I has asked about alternates for an LT2078CS8 and the LMP2232 was suggested, but the max supply voltage is shown as 6V.

Safe to assume that +5V and -5V rails would be out of spec?

    Yes, this is correct.  The maximum total supply voltage for LMP2231 is +6V (or +/-3V) while +/-5V is equivalent of +10V.  Thus, a better alternative to LT2078 may be OPA2196 with the supply range from +4.5V (+/-2.25V) to +36V (+/-18V).
