Always thank you for your help. My name is Nakano from F-tech.

I am using your company's current measurement IC (two types), but I feel that model 1 is more likely to break.

Model 1: INA186A2QDCKRQ1

Model 2: INA213AIDCKR

I think model 1 has a higher withstand voltage (40V), but are there any situations where it might be easily damaged by lightning, surges, external noise, etc.?

Were there any other cases or problems like that?

Please let me know if there are any differences on the datasheet.

Hello Nakano,

No amplifier is immune to damage from voltage surges (whether electrostatic discharge or system electrical overstress).

In term of DC, the INA186 has a higher Vcm Absolute Maximum rating as you mention.

The INA186 also has a larger HBM ESD rating of 3000 V as shown in ESD Ratings of both datasheet (section 6.2).

Any chance you could provide basic schematic information, as this can also play a role.

The ratings of each IC are as follows.

INA213 Vcm: 26V HBM ESD: 4000V

INA186 Vcm: 40V HBM ESD: ±3000V(Level2)

I believe that INA186 has higher functionality in both Vcm absolute maximum rating and HBM ESD rating than INA213. What do you think?

Hey Nakano,

Any ESD that exceeds device ratings can damage the device.

The INA186 has a higher ESD rating compared to the INA213A (2kV), but compared to the INA213B nor INA213C (3.5 kV). See datasheet for ratings and test conditions.

The B and C versions of the INA213 have different internal ESD architecture that provide better protection against fast voltage transients.

All of this needs to be understood in the context of your system. While the higher ESD rating means better protections from handling the devices, the higher VCM rating of INA186 may be more desirable if there are system voltage surges going past 26V.

Another advantage with INA186 is you can use higher input resistors (up to 1kOhm) which can further protect the input ESD cells from ESD or system voltage surges.
