TIPD181: TIPD181 SMC Size

Part Number: TIPD181

Thank you for the circuit design.

However, Would it be possible to provide a design with somewhat larger components?

This one uses 603, which is pretty small.

If you look at the overall PCB size and complexity, there is no logical reason for using 603 size.

It would make building it MUCH easier if a larger size was used: say 805 or larger.

The current PCB is about 90% empty space: it could have used thru hole components actually.

Since the whole idea of this exercise is to show-case the OPA, you would be MUCH better off with a design that's easier to build, especially for those of us who aren't as young as we once were....

If i decide to make a large number, then I can use a small SMC size.

But for a protype it seems silly to use 603.

Thanks,

Alan

  • Hey Alan,

I'm not sure all the motivations for this design, but sometimes these designs are created to facilitate taking this block as is and bringing it onto a bigger schematic, where others may be space constrained and want a design that is as small as possible. However, the altium files are provided on the page, and larger capacitors and resistors can definitely be swapped out in the design.

This is definitely an interesting request, usually we are asked to make our designs as small as possible, but I understand your perspective. I'm not the biggest fan of soldering 0603 or smaller, and 0805 is the easiest to work with by hand.

    Best,
    Jerry
