TAS6584Q1EVM: Safe operating voltage in PBTL configuration

Part Number: TAS6584Q1EVM

I'm hoping to use the TAS6584 eval kit for a test and was a bit curious about the recommended operating conditions of the board in the PBTL configuration. I see in the data sheet for the TAS6584 it's recommended a set of schottky diodes are connected between each channel's P/M outputs to PVDD and GND if operational voltages exceed 14.4 V. These diodes seem to be absent on the eval kit. Is it recommended that diodes be installed onto the kit before attempting to use it in a PBTL configuration above 14.4 V? Didn't see any disclaimers in the eval kit's manual but it seems like a bad idea to ignore the part's recommended operating conditions.

  • Hi Brendan

Thanks for your suggestions, it's a good idea. Currently the diodes not installed directly, because most of the customer use BTL rather than PBTL. And even use PBTL also out of PVDD range, usually won't damage the IC directly, but possibly error trigger OT/OC fault under high power.
