INA226: The appropriate way of VBUS connection

Part Number: INA226

Dear team,

I'm reaching out for advice for the appropriate way of VBUS connection, I found that DS recommend connecting VBUS to IN+ or IN-, but there is a suggest said if VBUS connect to SENSE network, will impact the whole power test precision, could you please explain this theory and share your advice for VBUS connection? Thanks a lot.

  • Hello Shengyue,

When sensing for high-side applications, if you connect the VBUS pin to IN- then the power measurement will just be the power dissipated over the load. If you connect the VBUS pin to IN+ then the power measurement will be for the whole system (both the load power and the power dissipated over the shunt resistor). So both options are fine to do, it just depends on if you want to know the power of the load only or the load and the shunt resistor.

    Regards,

    Mitch
