LM358: LM358 second source question

Part Number: LM358
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , LM393

Hi Sir,

I have an previous post here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/amplifiers-group/amplifiers/f/amplifiers-forum/1284653/lm358-replacement-issue-by-using-ti-lm358?tisearch=e2e-sitesearch&keymatch=lm358#

And here's response from my customer:

1. Input signal is 3.38V

2. Sypply voltage is 3.42V

3. Removing pull up voltage (R426) and short D20 has poor result.

So we have to suggest LM358B to customer?

Regards,

Gary Teng

  • Hey Gary,

Using the device at 3.42V limits your output swing when using the device as an amplifier. LM358 can output 1.5V from the positive rail. Adding the pull-up resistor can let the output turn off completely and the output voltage will go higher.

LM358B has a higher slew rate and will function more like the competitor device, but in both cases these are not great designs. Please note that the output has a stronger constant current sink pull-down, so you may have to make the pull up resistor R426 smaller.

Is there a reason the customer is not using a comparator for this application (such as the LM393)?

    Best,
    Jerry

  • Hi Jerry,

Customer just want to find second source. Will let customer know our suggestion. Thanks.

    Regard,

    Gary
