INA231: Is there an equivalent that is not a BGA form factor?

I know everyone is going smaller, but for a low production volume I need a part that that is easily hand soldered - SOT or similar. However, I also have the requirements that the I2C register structure be the same (or very close) and that the shunt resistor be external. (If internal, the value must be 15 mOhms.)

Hello David,

Yes, here are some options for you:

Same register map as INA231:
- INA226
  - The INA231 is actually a spin of the INA226 which comes in a bigger package and has tighter specifications.
- INA230
  - The INA230 is also a spin of the INA226 and also comes in the bigger package also.
Very similar register map:
- INA236/INA234/INA232: These devices are newer than the INA226, and may be worth considering.
Different register map:
- INA228/INA238/INA237: These devices are also newer than the INA226 and have additional features.

Some of the suggestions above do have a different register map, but the devices are available in SysConfig, which helps generate code based on your desired configuration settings. This can be found here: https://dev.ti.com/sysconfig/index.html?product=ascstudio&device=Other
