THP210: Should I leave the PD pin floating or connect it to a positive supply?

Part Number: THP210

Hi ! How should I use the PD pin on the THP 210? I use the PD pin in the form of POR (power on reset, a resistor and a capacitor). The test engineer says that the pin continues to work when left in the floating position. And there are two different information in the data sheet. Which information is correct?

  • Hi,

The PD pin is pulled high with a 1 uA current source to the VS+ pin.  This means if you leave it floating, it should still be pulled to VS+.  But, if there is somehow more than 1 uA of current on the PD pin sinking current away from the PD pin (for example, leakage on a PCB as a result of humidity or moisture on the board), then the PD pin can be incorrectly pulled low. If you never need to use the PD pin, then tying it directly to VS+ removes the possibility that board leakage can pull the PD pin low.  I would recommend tying to VS+ if you don't need to use PD.

We'll make note of this data sheet conflict and correct it on the next rev.

    Regards,
    Mike
