THP210: Amplifiers forum

Part Number: THP210

Hi,

I planning to use THP210 IC for single-ended signals to differantial signals. Single-ended signals are max. 5V. I need to max. -+8V differential signals. So, I have to adjust the gain of THP210 according to 3.2 V/V. I simulated THP210 IC at LTSPICE. I see, This is possible according to LTspice simulations.

I need to try this IC, but I don't have THP210 IC now. I just want to know the accuracy of this output. Is it possible to set the gain of THP210 to 3.2 V/V?

  • Hi Emre,

Yes, +/- 8V should be no problem.  The biggest problem people come across is using the device in the correct common mode input and output ranges; however, if you use the device at +/-15 V supply, there will be no issues w/ 5 V in and +/-8 V out.

Keep in mind what you have drawn is a 5V input.  That could be interpreted as a 2.5 V common mode signal, with a +2.5 V differential swing.  The same signal with a 2.5 V common mode, and -2.5 V swing would be equivalent to 0 V on the input, which would then achieve +/- 8 V (16 V p-p) on the output.  So in that case the gain (3.2) would work fine.  However if you were thinking your input singal is +/- 5 V, that would actually be a 10 V pp swing on the output, and the device would attempt to swing to 32 Vpp on the output, but that would not be achievable given that the total supply voltage is 30 V.

There are a good set of trainings for Fully-Differential Amplifiers at the following page:

  • Thank you for your detailed reply.

I wanted to know if the THP210 gain could be fine-tuned. (3.2 V/V)
So, I can change 5V Single-ended signals to +/-8V Differential Signals.
According to your reply, can be done.
    I am grateful to you.

  • Hello.

Sorry if the details above were not clear, the answer is yes.

If you want any more detail, please let me know the input voltage range.

    Regards,
    Mike
