INA228: make the VBUS pin float

Hi Expert,

My customer used INA228 in a 48V battery system in their old design.

and recently they have a new project and the voltage bus will go to as high as 87V.

but actually they don't need it to monitor the Vbus, so can they just disconnect the pin and only use shunt to IN+/IN-.

Hello Emma,

Since they do not need a VBUS measurement, maybe they can sense on the low side. This way the voltage at the input pins is near 0V, so there would be no issue. If they do need a higher voltage at IN+ and IN-, then they could use either of the methods from these design guides:
