OPA991-Q1: Maximum load current

Part Number: OPA991-Q1

Hello TI,

I am using OPA991-Q1 to supply few logic devices. I could see in the datasheet the maximum current that this opamp can supply is +/-75mA. Is this short ciruit current ? can you share me the maximum or nominal allowable load current of this device. I am operating this opamp with a single supply of 5V.

Best Regards,

Manoj.

  • Hey Manoj,

Max output current will be the short-circuit current. A useful figure for this evaluation is figure 6-14, output voltage vs output current. Your swing from rail decreases as your output current increases. The amount of current that can be supplied also depends on how close your output needs to swing to the rail. If your op amp is powered off of 5V and it is supplying a 3.3V rail, you can only supply ~45mA typically over temperature. If you add some tolerance to the design, staying below 30mA should be safely within tolerance. However, if your op amp is supplied from 10V and you supply a 5V rail, you can source almost all the way to the short circuit current limit ~60-70mA.

    Best,
    Jerry
