INA219 Saturation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA219

Hello All,

I'd like a little help and insight from folks regarding the INA219. I have a customer using the INA219 to measure a current --

The current will vary from 0 to 2.5A he needs a resolution of 50 mA steps. However, when taking a reading the INA219 is off by 125% or more. Even at 0A, the device still reads 28 mA of current.

Anyone have any ideas why this would occur? Of course all bets are off with ESD and the like, but has the factory seen this behavior?

Thanks!

  • Hi Richard,

This sounds like your customer has an incorrectly configured circuit, incorrectly set registers, or is incorrectly interpreting the digital data.  Without a schematic, scope shots, or more information there isn't a lot we can do.

An example circuit showing the correct circuit connections can be seen in Figure 13 in the datasheet.

My main suggestions would be to double check the circuit connections, then verify that the device configuration registers are being set appropriately, and then verify that they are correctly interpreting the digital data being returned from the INA219.

Let me know what you find out.
