UA733 vs NE592?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UA733, TL592B

Hi,

I'd like to know if the uA733 is a direct replacement for the NE592? From the datasheets it seems like it is except for these discrepancies;

1. Input resistance ranges

2. uA733 has a third option for voltage gain

3. Pins 1 -14; 3-12; 4-11; 7-8; seems to be swapped i.e NE592 defines pin 14 as IN+ etc

We are presently using a NE592 in one of our designs and I'd like to replace it with an uA733?

I physically (for trial purposes) replaced the NE592 in the circuit with an uA733 and saw a considerable gain increase and a better frequency response. The signal seems considerably cleaner (in terms of noise) too. I'd really like to use the uA733 but I need to be able to justify quantitatively the replacement.

Thanks

Behlul

  • Hello Behlul,

The direct cross for the NE592 is the TL592B, but it is only available in 8 pin. The uA733 has similar specs and comes in 14 pin with a similar pin out.
The internal schematics are similar with most of the difference in the gain adjust circuit.
Either device should work well, but the empirical results favor the uA733.

  • Hi Ron,

    Thanks for your response..

Just to confirm there is suggestive evidence that the uA733 has a better gain profile than the NE592 correct?

By any chance are you aware of any application notes or other documentation that references this.

    That'll help a lot.

  • Behlul,

I could not find any documentation other than the device data sheets.
I also looked for lab data and other forum posts.

  • Hi Ron,

    Thanks for checking into this.

Most likely will go ahead and replace the NE592 with the uA733 as you too have suggested it as a favorable substitute. The noise charachteristics are better as well.

I have attached an application note for the NE592 with this post for your reference. Table 1 is the only place that has some sort of reference or comparison to the uA733. The table is not referenced anywhere in the document. Not sure if you can make something of it. If you do please let me know else is fine. I think I am convinced placing the uA733 should be fine.

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards
