LM139A: PSpice model does not appear to have the typical files.

Part Number: LM139A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM139, TINA-TI, LM339, , LM2901, LM2903

Tool/software:

According to the FAQ, the PSpice model .ZIP file should have four files: .DSN, .OPJ, .LIB, and .OLB. The file for LM139 only has one file with a .5_1 extension. How do I import this into TINA-TI?

  • Hi Tom,

The extension for this file doesn't matter. Within it is the subcircuit information, so you can just change the extension from 5_1 to .LIB and import it into TINA through the new macro wizard.

I've gone ahead and done that and placed it within a schematic. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    LM139A.TSC

  • Hello Tom,

The LM139 has the "old" (20 years+) transistor based model. The "5_1" means optimized for the 5V specs.

The 5_1 file is a simple text file. You can rename it to whatever you like. The suggestion would be to rename to "LM139.lib" for easy importation.

A more modern model is available for LM339 family. Since the models only model typicals, it covers all the flavors of the LM1/2/339 and LM2901 family - including the LM139A.

A pre-built TINA package is available for this model:

    LM2901 and LM339 TINA-TI Spice Model (Rev. B)

Within the ZIP file is the macro (symbol + model) TSM file (LM2901.TSM) or a simple TINA design containing the same LM2903 macro (LM2901.TSC).

To import into your schematic, copy the TSM file into a local directory. From your schematic, from the menu bar, select "Insert" -> "Macro..". Then navigate to the new TSM file and select the desired macro, click "Open",  then place the new symbol.

I "cheat" and do it the easy way.... With your design open, click on the LM2901.TSC design file to open it in TINA along-side your design (another tab). Then just copy and paste the LM2901 symbol from the reference design into your design. Easy! :^)
