INA233: Question

hi, I am FAA NCG in Taiwan and I have some questions form the customer side regarding to the application of INA233.

1) Are we able to connect PMBUS directly to BMC so that BMC could read the current voltage/current/power in application?

2) I2C/SMBUS/PMBUS interface's voltage reference is set by the value of the external pullup resistors?

3) Could we use it with a load current around 25A since the load current is 10A In the typical application we provided in TI's data sheet. What is the maximum load current?

1. Yes (assuming that the INA233 and the BMC use the same GND).

2. Yes; the INA233 works with any interface voltage between 1.8 V and 5 V.

3. The INA233 simply measures the voltage drop over the shunt resistor. In general, for a higher maximum current, you would just use a smaller shunt resistor. See section 7.5.2 of the datasheet for how the INA233 converts the measurements to V/A/W values.

Hi Liang,

1. I agree with Clemens, you can connect the INA233 to BMC directly if they both have a common GND.

2. The pullup resistors don't set the interface voltage, as Clemens said, the INA233 will operate within the 1.8V to 5V range.
