LMH6554: power supply selection for the amplifier

Part Number: LMH6554

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have a question regarding the power supply requirement for the LMH6554 full difference amplifier.

I want to use this amplifier as a current sensor amplifier along with a shunt resistor. The current is expected to go negative.

In this case, do I need to provide a negative power supply for the amplifier to have a negative voltage output?

Or is it possible to operate with a single supply and set the common voltage through Vcm pin?

Thank you,

Steven

  • Hello Steve,

I would recommend using a split supply configuration if you need negative input signals.  The input common-mode range of the amplifier requires headroom from the rails, at +/-2.5V the input common-mode range is +/-1.3V.

You can try to shift common mode around the amplifier, but this can result in issues if the amplifier sees a common-mode input signal below its lowest supply.

    Best,

    Alec
