OPA2228: Current Consumption vs OPA2227

The OPA2228 is decompensated, i.e., it reduces or omits the compensation capacitor, which makes it unstable at gains smaller than 5, but results in higher speeds than the 2227 at larger gains.

In bipolar technology GBW=gm/(2*Pi*Cc) where gm=Itail/(k*T/q), Cc is the main Miller compensation cap, Itail is current biasing input differential pair, k is a Boltzmann's constant and T is temperature expressed in degrees Kelvin.  Therefore, to increase the GBW typically requires increase in gm and thus Itail (~IQ). However, one may instead decide to decrease the size of Cc, which also results in higher GBW BUT unstable operation at low gains, due to location of high frequency parasitic poles, as is the case of OPA2228.
