XTR300EVM: Single-Ended Current output mode

Part Number: XTR300EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: XTR300

Tool/software:

Hello, Support Team.

I have a question about XTR300EVM.

According to the User's Guide(sbou034a.pdf), in case of Single-ended current output mode,

jumper-6 between OUT- and GND should be off(OPEN). Although I tried that with

default value of resistors or capacitors, Vin=0 to 5V, load resistor_500[ohm],

error signal LD and CM are gave.

By way of experiment, J6 is on(CLOSE), then current outputted correctly.

Which is correct about J6 setting?

Best regards

  • Hi,

The XTR300 is a 3-wire current output transmitter.  On a 3-wire current transmitter, the load resistance must be referred to the same current transmitter GND,  See below:

Jumper J6 connects the TVS protection diode and XTR300 output capacitor to GND. It also connects the OUT- connector TB4 to the XTR300EVM GND.

The TVS diode (D5) protects the XTR300 against extrinsic transients or overvoltage conditions that can occur on the current transmitter output wire; and the output capacitor helps filter any XTR300 intrinsic noise, as well as provide some level of protection against external transients.

    - For evaluation purposes, Jumper J6 could be left open or closed, as it will have a negligible on the output current.

Nevertheless, if you leave J6 open, then you have to ensure the other side of the 500Ω load resistor is grounded, and still referred to the same local GND of the XTR300EVM.  Of course, one easy way to connect the load resistor to GND, is to connect the load resistor across XTR_OUT+ and XTR_OUT- connector.  If you load is not connected/referred to same XTR300 GND externally, then closing J6 will connect the load resistor to GND.

    Thank you and Best Regards.
