INA186-Q1: Current sensor solution suggestion

Part Number: INA186-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA121

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

Could you please share some suggestion for selecting a suitable current sensor and shunt resistor?

1. Detect 0~100uA current, accuracy is 1uA(whole temperature range), output voltage 0.1~3V. Please kindly suggest a solution and shunt resistor value.

2. Detect 100uA~3A, accuracy 1uA(whole temperature range), output voltage 0.1~3V. Please kindly suggest a solution and shunt resistor value.

Thank you!

Best,

Frank

  • Hey Frank,

What is the input voltage at shunt resistor? In other words what will the input common-mode voltage (Vcm) be at amplifier input pins?

Are there any preferred voltage supply rails available in the circuit?

The INA190A1 + ~1kOhm Shunt + a 5-V supply rail may be best current-sense amplifier (CSA) option because it is a high-input impedance CSA. Check out this reference design.

However depending upon your answers, an instrumentation amplifier (in-amp) (e.g., INA121) may be a better option.

    Sincerely,

    Peter
