Tool/software:
Hello,
I noticed that input bias current of INA226 has recently been updated on the datasheet revision B.
- Decreased input bias current typical value
- Updated Shunt Input Gain Error vs Common-Mode Voltage graph and Input Bias current curves.
However, the measurement from the chip we have aligns with the initial datasheet published in 2011.
Has the INA226 updated to have a better input bias current, without notice, while not affecting other specs?
- If so, how can I distinguish them from the old version of INA226?
Or is it just a faulty datasheet revision?
Hello Hansuk,
Yes, the INA226 has been updated, and the new version will have the better input bias current. You can tell the difference from the Die ID Register (0xFF), the Die Revision ID Bits (RID, bit 0-3) will be 0x1 instead of 0x0.
Regards,
Mitch
Thanks for your prompt answer.
Reading the die ID register is 100% correct way to confirm the die revision while it can only be done after manufacturing.
Is it possible to distinguish new version from manufacturing date? Is there any difference in marking - date code?
Regards,
Hansuk
Hello Hansuk,
I am looking into this to see if there is a specific way you can tell from external markings on the device, and will get back to you within a couple days.

Mitch
And one more question.
If I order the INA226 from the TI website now, will I receive the new die revision?
Hello Hansuk,
I heard back about package markings, and there is not a specific date code marking for new devices yet. We will have a specific date code once we have finished de-ramping the old version.
If you buy from ti.com, you will still get the old rev until they are all sold out, then the new revision will start to show up. As an FYI, the new revision will likely be available in the automotive (-Q1) version before the commercial version. So, each version will have its own date code marking to indicate the revision.
If you want to test out some of the new revision before then, you can reach out to your FAE or Marketing contact and request some. If you do not already have a contact, let me know and I can connect you with someone.
Regards,
Mitch
