OPA2277: OPA2277

Part Number: OPA2277
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA277, OPA2206, OPA227, OPA4277, OPA2211-HT

Tool/software:

the website shows opa2277 has temperature range of -40 to 85 deg. C as seen in the attached file, but the datasheet shows the Tj temperature range of this device is up to 150 deg. C as shown in the attached file too, so not sure what is the correct operating temperature range of this device? can TI help to clarify this?

Thank you and look forward to hearing from TI on this when convenient?

  • Hi Yenwu,

As shown on the OPA277 data sheet, the op-amp performance is only specified in the -40°C to +85°C; and therefore the device is only intended to operate under this temperature range.

The Absolute Maximum Ratings table shows the maximum temperature the device can withstand during a fault condition, without damage.  However, the device is not expected to operate at that high temperature. Essentially, stresses or conditions beyond those listed under Absolute Maximum Ratings may cause permanent damage to the device. These are stress ratings only, which do not imply functional operation of the device at these or any other conditions beyond those indicated under Recommended Operating Conditions.

You could consider the OPA2206. This is a newer generation op-amp with similar specifications, that specifies performance and operation across the extended temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.  See below OPA2206 data sheet snap shot and product page website link.

    Thank you and Best Regards,

  • Thanks. Luis,

So this means this OPA227 device will only be allowed to work between -40 to 85 deg. C ambient temperature range,

Not sure if you know with same OPA2277 rated devices which can operate in ambient temperature range between -55 deg. C to 125 deg. C?

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you when convenient.

  • HI Jenwu,

As we previously discussed, if you review the OPAx277 product data sheet, which provides specifications of the OPA277 (single), OPA2277 (dual) and OPA4277 (quad) options, the devices are specified to operate from -40°C to +85°C. See below, OPAx277 datasheet, which includes the OPA2277 (dual):

You could consider the OPA2206. This is a newer generation op-amp with similar specifications, that specifies performance and operation across the extended temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.  See below OPA2206 data sheet snap shot and product page website link.

    Thank you,

    Luis

  • Thanks. Luis, I see what you mean regarding the OPA2206 device can operate between -40 to 125 deg. C range.

    My question now is:

Not sure if you know with same or similar OPA2277 rated devices, which can operate in a wider ambient temperature range between -55 deg. C to 125 deg.  C? which is not only operable between -40 to 125 deg. C range as the OPA2206 you mentioned above.

Thank you and look forward to hearing from you when convenient.

  • HI Yenwu,

The most similar, special HT grade over extended temperature is the OPA2211-HT.  The OPA2211 is a bipolar input, very low noise, 45-MHz bandwidth amplifier specified over an extended -55C to +150C.  This will be the closest/ most similar to the OPA2206 and OPA2277 extending temp range to -55C, but it is not an equivalent op-amp.

Among high precision op-amps (offset < 1mV) on High Temperature (or extended temp) grade, specified over the -50C to +150C temperature, we also offer the OPA333-HT, however this is a 5V, CMOS device with very different specs.

    Thank you and Regards,

    Luis
