THS6232: Circuit design issues

Part Number: THS6232
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS6222,

Tool/software:

What are the roles of RT1 and RT2 249 Ω in the circuit design of THS6232? We did not use these two resistors in the design of THS6222 before, and the circuit function is normal. Can we remove these two resistors in the circuit design of THS6232?

  • Hello Zhang,

These resistors Rt1 and Rt2 are input termination resistors.  We use these on the EVM to provide correct input common mode voltage to the THS62x2 circuit, driving the DC value at amplifier inputs.

This is not required for operation.  For evaluation purposes it is good to have this sub circuit to check the input common mode voltage via test point.  VICM should be mid-supply.  The internal common mode buffer on the THS6222 and THS6232 will set the appropriate VICM.  The EVM sub circuit helps provide understanding of operation and enables input termination.

As long as you know your input common mode is properly set to mid-supply, you would not need these resistors Rt1 and Rt2.

    Best,

    Alec
