OPA858: Maximum frequency for simulation with SPICE

Hi,

I would like to simulate a TIA with very high bandwidth based on the OPA858. I don't have much experience with TIA development or analog circuit design.

Is it possible to use SPICE as a simulation tool for frequencies up to 500 MHz? How accurate is the model of the OPA858 for frequencies between 200 MHz and 500 MHz?

Hi Roger,

The bandwidth you require is possible and one that can be done in simulation. However, the bandwidth and stability of the circuit strongly depend on the photodiode capacitance and the transimpedance gain required. As far as the accuracy of our model, it does do a good job at capturing overall device performance which should correlate to what is seen on a PCB. However, from our experience there is a level of tuning that is required as most SPICE simulators do not capture real world parasitics and are hard to account for as it is dependent on things such as layout.

Hi Roger,

We have developed a TIA circuit design tool: Analog circuit design studio. You can select an op-amp for the list or you use the suggest TIA option which will suggest you TIAs. You can insert all the required circuit parameters, and you can see output parameters like TIA bandwidth, settling time, noise/ SNR, AC and Transient response.
