OPA2197: Operation with V+ tied to Ground, and Inputs between 0-0.1V; Over-the-rail inputs

Part Number: OPA2197
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA197,

Tool/software:

Hello,

I'm looking to use an OPA2197/OPA197 with V+ tied to ground, V- at approx -12V, and the -IN and +IN at between 0-0.1V.

Is it okay to have the inputs slightly above V+ supply for the OPA197/OPA2197 (a.k.a. Over-the-rail input), and run only a single V- supply?

Thank you

  • The allowed common-mode voltage range ends 0.1 V above the positive supply, so this is allowed.

  • Hi Mischa,

Is it okay to have the inputs slightly above V+ supply for the OPA197/OPA2197 (a.k.a. Over-the-rail input), and run only a single V- supply?

Per Clemens's comment, here is the abs. max. ratings in OPAx197 op amp. The input signal depends on the input signal type, weather it is common or differential mode input signals.

and the -IN and +IN at between 0-0.1V.

The description is considered as differential voltage at input, and 0 to 0.1V is allowed without experiencing EIPD issue.

If you have other questions, please let us know.

    Best,

    Raymond
