LOG300: LOG300

Part Number: LOG300

Tool/software:

LOG300 seems very good chip. My concern is as below so please comment on it.

To detect signal amplitude there is provision of threshold say about 1.7 fix voltage so for the detection of required signal I need some arrangement/features like to either to very the Threshold level or the Gain of the amplifier so please advice how can I achieve that. In some scenario I need to avoid the low amplitude signal.

Generally in Ultrasonic Time varying  Gain control and AGC is required or simply gain control of LOG300  so How can achieve in stated chip.

Thank you

  • Hello , i am shreenidhi Patil product definer  of log300 .
I have some ideas on how you can achieve this .
    1) you can vary Rf to change the gain of the log300 slope and thereby achieve different sensitivity

    2) you can use a comparator after log300 with varying threshold

    3) you can look at comparator output to check for the frequency to determine if indeed the signal of required frequency has been detector .

you can reach out to me on shree@ti.com and we talk on phone to get more clarity / help

  • Hello Shreenidhi,

Thank you very much for reply.

    1) you can vary Rf to change the gain of the log300 slope and thereby achieve different sensitivity

Do you mean "Ref_Res" pin 6 (SOIC package)  ?  Do we change resistor or applied voltage ? Resistor I can't change/switch because we need to change dynamically gain so that is not suitable.

    2) you can use a comparator after log300 with varying threshold

       That might be suitable.

    3) you can look at comparator output to check for the frequency to determine if indeed the signal of required frequency has been detector .

That would not helpful for my concern.

Generally for the Ultrasonic if the signal is strong then Gain need to be decrease and vice versa to detect echo signal and to ignore the unwanted noise signal. so in case of LOG300 if it is always operates on fix gain(High gain) then the initial reason unwanted noise also gets amplified and that might above the threshold level so in that case Gain to be reduce. If the required signal is too weak then in that case Gain to be increase so it can cross the threshold level. Considering that I wanted to know is there any provision to change the Gain of LOG300 ?

Generally LNA+VGA type amplifiers used but I am very keen to use this chip as it seems very promising.

I hope you understood my concern.

    Thank you.
