LMH7322: Converting 4.2Vpp clock to LVPECL

Part Number: LMH7322
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CDCLVP111,

Tool/software:

Hello team,

My customer is trying to convert 4.2Vpp clock to LVPECL clock for CDCLVP111.

Is LMH7322 capable of 4.2Vpp input clock?
I am worried because VRID is only +/- 1V.

What is the maximum input frequency for LMH7322?
Customer wants at least 1GHz

  • Hi Kuwahara-san,

Is LMH7322 capable of 4.2Vpp input clock?

LMH7322 has a VRID of +/- 1V is due to the diode clamps between the inputs:

The VRID can be higher than the defined +/- range up to VCC of the device, but this would result in excessive bias currents due to forward biasing the internal input diodes.

What is the maximum input frequency for LMH7322?
    Customer wants at least 1GHz

It depends on your VCCI and VCCO and load conditions. LMH7322 has a typical toggle rate of 3.9Gb/s at 5V VCCI and VCCO:

Please note that at the above toggle rate, there is output distortion such that the output swings to only 50% of its final value:

In addition, typical specifications are not tested and not ensured, as the toggle rate can vary across PVT.
