One quick question: Why have you included R5 and R6 as part of feedback, I quite didn't understand it.

R5 and R6 add hysteresis to prevent output chatter. See blue rectangles, where simulation (without R5,R6) shows chatter, glitches, extra pulses.

Hi Ron,

I built this circuit on a prototyping board, I set the frequency to 80 kHz, but my actual output frequency is 70 kHz, could you please explain to me what could be causing this discrepancy. Secondly I have this circuits output connected to SN74LVC2G04 inverter, but I dont get any inverted output at the inverter's output pin. You advice and thoughts are greatly appreciated.

The prototyping board has more capacitance.

Make sure power and ground are connected to inverter.
