UCC25660: MOSFET Failure Due to High Inrush Current at Startup

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are evaluating an LLC resonant converter using the UCC25660, and we have encountered a MOSFET failure due to high inrush current at startup.

We would appreciate your guidance on the following points:

  • What could be the possible causes of excessive current flowing through the MOSFET during startup?

  • Are there any recommended design practices to prevent such failures (e.g., proper soft-start configuration, gate resistance, VCC voltage clamping, snubber circuit, etc.)?

Thanks,

Conor

  • Hi Conor,

If you can share the schematic and design calculator this might help us better understand what is going on. One possible cause is that the OCP threshold set too high - We have a very fast cycle-by-cycle current limit which protects in 50ns.

Note we now have the UCC25661 which has more feature options available,
