Hello,

I have a generic question about the ESD protection. I notice that the valuation module AMP-PDK-EVM, which is sandbox for engineers to abuse. it doesn't have any ESD protection on the board. I have noticed that the data sheet of TLV4333 claims 4000V HBM, 1000V CDM. when I use this chip in a product, a standard industry application. in a closed chassis, not use accessible. is it necessary to protect all IO pins of this chip. how to evaluate the risk of using a TVS or not?

is there a rule of thumb to use an ESD in a system. any suggestion is appreciate.

The ESD/CDM ratings of any product guarantees survivability up to the specified HBM and CDM levels. Therefore, the same ratings applies to a given product inside the closed chassis with no additional ESD protection. In the case of TLV4333, it is 4000V HBM and 1000V CDM. Whether such level is robust enough depends on the specific environment exposed in your application but in most cases it is more than enough to prevent any damage to IC.
