TLV3501A-Q1: Maximum output current

Part Number: TLV3501A-Q1

Tool/software:

Hi team,

What is the maximum output current for TLV3501A-Q1?

We only find output short circuit current in datasheet, and would like to know the maximum output current when output is high

BR,

Ethan

  • Hello Ethan,

There is not really a "maximum" current - at least up until the 74mA current limit.

Higher output current reduces the output voltage swing.

The "limit" is how much output voltage swing loss you can tolerate.

Unfortunately, this device does not have an output voltage vs current graphs. So we can back calculate.

Figure 10 shows the output driving a 50 ohm load with a split ±2.5V supplies.

The resulting output is about ±1.5V, resulting in a 1V drop at 2.5V/50=50mA.

So if the output drops 1V at 50mA, Ohms Law says the RDSon is about 20 ohms.

Looking at the EC table, the typical output swing is 50mV max at 1mA, so ohms law says 30mV/1mA=50 ohms.

Being digital, the output will look mostly resistive, so you can model the output as a 50 ohm resistor to the respective supply. The more current drawn, the more voltage dropped across the output.

I would keep the current in the 1-10mA range to minimize power dissipation.
