TRF1213: S-parameter model (D2D or D2S)

Part Number: TRF1213
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE7950, TRF1208, TRF1108

Tool/software:

I am currently developing a combination of AFE7950 and TRF1213.

I would like to perform DAC-side simulation, so could you provide me with a D2D or D2S S-parameter model?

I was only able to download S2D from the website.

  • Hi Kazuto-San,

TRF1213 cannot be used for D2D or D2S application as it has internal 50ohm termination on one of the input pins. It is suitable for S2D application.

  • Hi Hruday,

Does that mean that TRF1213 cannot be used on the TX side of AFE7950 in the same way as TRF1208?

I was thinking of replacing TRF1208 with TRF1213 because the relationship between Gain and P1dB did not match the required performance.

Is there any way to use TRF1213 with D2S?

  • Hi Odajima-san,

Yes that's correct. The TRF1213 support only S2D operation.

For D2S operation you can consider the TRF1108. You can consider backing off the DAC or adding a pad between AFE7950's DAC and TRF1108 if Gain exceeds P1dB.

  • Hi Srinivas,

    Thank you for your suggestion.

It seems that TRF1108 can be used without changing the power supply voltage from 5V.

However, this device is planned to be used in the X band, and TRF1108 cannot be used in the DC to 8GHz frequency range.

Is there any risk in using it in the X band?

If it cannot be used in the X band, the PWB will need to be modified, but we plan to change to TRF1208.

  • Hi Odajima-san,

Section 5.6 of the TRF1108 datasheet specifies s-parameters till 12GHz and linearity/noise till 10GHz. Please review these performance curves. If the performance is acceptable for your application, certainly it can be used in X-band, since the performance is specified in the datasheet.
