compensator designing using OPAMP

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA2140, TL494

Dear All,

I am new in feedback control system designing.

I have come across concept of compensator designing to stabilize system & implimenting poles & zeroes in system for that.

But how to design it & not able to find good & straight forward document on this topic ??

Can you suggest me some links for that which will be helpfull for compensator designing using OPAMP ??

I am using OPA2140.

& any simulators from TI & all for reference.

Looking forward for your support.

Thank you.

  • Bhuyaneshwar,

I'm sorry but it is not clear what you want to do. Do you want to use an op amp circuit to create poles and zeros to compensate a larger control loop? Or, are you trying to create an op amp circuit and having problems with stability of the op amp due to unwanted poles or zeros.

If you can narrow your question to a specific circuit or case I think we could perhaps provide some advice. Please attach a schematic diagram so that we can better understand.

    Regards, Bruce.

  • Dear Sir,

Yes, using an OPAMP i want to create poles & zeroes to compensate a control loop.

& i am not finding any good document on it.

    Thanks & regards

  • Hi Bhuvaneshwar,

There is a lot of information around the internet regarding creating simple poles and zeros using reactive elements in the feedback network of an operational amplifier.

Below is an article I found by quickly searching on the TI.com website:

    http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sboa092a/sboa092a.pdf

Although most basic circuits appear to be briefly covered in this document, lead and lag networks are specifically discussed beginning on page 84.

I believe "Op-amps for Everyone" also has a good deal of information on this subject:

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi,

I know the post is an old one or expired. Anyway..

I've made an Open Loop  DC-DC Buck converter (12V/6V, 3W, 50kHz, 50% Duty cycle) using TL494, IR2111, my question is that, can I make the system a closed loop control one, using the internal opamp in TL494. In-fact  I tried to close loop, but it didn't work. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Please intimate me the practical hurdles on using opamps for compensator circuit. I couldn't find any documents on the same..

    Thanks...

    Blessen
