a modulated supply source

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA541, BUF634, TINA-TI

Folks at TI:

I need a supply voltage source with high current capability.

Since the DC supply sources won’t modulate, the signal
generators won’t have current drive capability; and if there is such a thing,
we don’t have it here at ASU, I am proposing this circuit utilizing OPA541.

Is this going to work? Please let me know!

    I think you forgot to attach your proposed circuit... Depending on your bandwidth requirement the BUF634 could be worth a look. You can't get the same current out of it as the OPA541 but you get an bandwidth of 30MHz to 180MHz indead of 55kHz.

  • Hi Ahmad,

    It looks like you have copied the circuit shown in Figure 5 of the datasheet and changed the gain. So your circuit looks good to me.

    With 2A you are still in the "Safe Operating Area" of the device (shown in Figure 1), but you migh think about reducing the supply voltage: You still have a lot of room to meet the Input Common-Mode Voltage requirement of 6V to the rail. Reducing the supply voltage will reduce the internal Pd and reduce self heating of the IC. A +/-12V supply could be a nice option (if availible). Make sure that the heat has some place to go!

    I suggest that you download TI's free software "TINA-TI". You can use it to draw a circuit and then run an analysis to see if it works as you think it should.
