OPA356: Will frequently running the amplifier in saturation cause damage to it?

Part Number: OPA356

Tool/software:

I want to use this amplifier to create a reverse proportional circuit for scaling the signal, as shown in the figure below.  The power supply is ±1.8V,The input signal is a 10 MHz sine wave, featuring an amplitude of ±50V and lasting for 20μs, followed an amplitude of ±5V also lasting for 20μs, as shown in the figure below. This pattern repeats every second,  My objective is to scale down the ±5V signal to ±1V,and not need to pay attention to the period of ±50V,My question is the 20μs ±50V signal can damage the amplifier? Will prolonged repetition of this cycle cause any damage? thanks!

  • Hi YZ,

The input of the OPA356 is diode clamped. So if you limit you current going into the input termimal below 10mA, it should not be a problem.

In you case it will be less than 5.2mA (51.8V/10Kohm), so should be fine to use. It will not cause damage to the device.
