Hello,

Our customer has a question about how TAS6424E-Q1 works after DC diagnostics fault is happened.

In case if TAS6424E-Q1 detects the output short to battery or short to GND,

- Does TAS6424E-Q1 turns to HiZ, then stop working, 

- Deos TAS6424E-Q1 gives Fault state to external,

or

- any other functon

    Do you have access to this document: Understanding DC and AC Load Diagnostics in Automotive Class-D Amplifiers

    The device won't be in PLAY when doing DC Load Diagnostics measurements. Although DC Load Diagnostics can be in the play state when it starts, this is from the data sheet: "DC Diagnostics can be started from any operating condition, but if the channel is in PLAY state, then the time to complete the diagnostic is longer because the device must ramp down the audio signal of that channel before transitioning to the Hi-Z state.... DC Diagnostic results are reported for each channel separately through the I2C registers."

    And the point of my question is,
    after start up of TAS6424E, the IC goes to stable in the play state and play the sound(imagine that the sound played in the vehicle),
    if the TAS6424E found some of the ch have short to GND/Battery/Across and open,
    can TAS6424E,
      1. stop the output immediately? will the output state goes to Hi-z?
      2. indicate us with Fault or Warn pins?
      3. same the log in the diag register or something?

    This is the detailed question focusing on TAS6424E not to the general items,,

    And I'm sorry for rushing but the we need this information within today that customer need to reply.

    If already into PLAY mode, such kind of fault condition will trigger OC.

      1. stop the output immediately? will the output state goes to Hi-z?

    Yes, sure.

      2. indicate us with Fault or Warn pins?

    Fault pin will be low.

    3. same the log in the diag register or something?

    Register will tell you there's OC fault.

    Thank you for your confirmation and
    if we met the short to Battery/GND condition during Play state,
    We understood that we can notice that condition through Fault pin and check Over Current fault register shows fault.

    Based on above I understood the function, but for example, I have 2 more question which noticed by Over Current, that
    1. I think short to GND can be noticed by over current, but can we also notice the short to battery condition with Over current function? because the battery normally more than center voltage of spk output, so current will not flown from that pins.
    2. if we can get such condition via Over current diag, but how much value should we set for each 2ohm and 4ohm ch for over current diag? Do you have any idea or suggestion? *depends on how much over current set, those short to Battery and GND cannot be diagnosed, I worried.

    1. Yes, we can notice short to battery with OC, see below screenshot from Datasheet:
    2. Short to battery or GND generally would generate an extremely high current, such that either current settings for either Rload will be able to detect the shorts.
