USB2ANY: USB2ANY and USB Interface Adapter

Part Number: USB2ANY
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3509, , TUSB3410

Hello
Question 1)
The LM3509 EVM recommends using the TI USB Interface Board.
Can I use both the USB2ANY and the USB Interface Adapter?

Question 2) What is the difference between the USB2ANY and the USB Interface Adapter?

  • LM3509 predates USB2ANY by about seven years, and my own time at TI by nearly two decades, and I'm just the one who gets all the USB2ANY questions and have no detailed knowledge of LM3509 or the other LED products, so I am speculating. It seems like the "TI USB Interface Board" refers to another dedicated USB docking board that comes with (or came with) the EVM. The EVM images on the website show a board mated to the evaluation module, and the instructions refer to some way to dock the EVM onto the USB board. I don't know what went onto this board, but very likely the board uses or used some TI-specific USB interfacing chip like TUSB3410 in combination with a microcontroller to serve SPI or I2C.

In any case, USB2ANY or USB2GPIO should be usable to communicate with the board directly, as the EVM exposes SCL/SDA headers, and accepts 3.3V I2C. I don't think it would be usable with any related EVM software, but a cursory review of the webpages for the EVM and the device suggest the software is also unavailable, so the use of a modern USB interface doesn't sacrifice anything that wasn't already lost to time.

I'll tentatively mark this question as closed, and request the LED product owners to review and add anything useful for practical modern evaluation.
