INA700: Current readings are fluctuating

Part Number: INA700

Hello Ti Support Team,

I am using INA700AYWFR for voltage and current measurement; the circuit is done as shown in the picture below.

Now in steady state, INA700 is reading the voltage and current of the solar panel and the voltage of the battery correctly. But when the current is flowing into the battery, then the voltage and current of the solar panel are fluctuating rapidly, and at the battery side I am not getting any current.

 

Note: All the registers are configured to default values, and the ADC sample averaging count in the ADC_CONFIG register has been increased; in both these cases we observed the same results.

    Hi Sai Varun,

    1. I'm not sure if this issue you're facing is due to the INA700, to confirm this, I'd recommend removing the INA700s and shorting the lines to check if current into the battery is still zero.

    2. Solar applications generally have a charge controller attached to the battery, please confirm whether you have this in your setup or not. If you don't have charge controllers, this might very well be the reason for lack of current flow into the battery.

    3. Please elaborate on what you mean by steady state.

    Hi Mallika Senthil,

    1. The current is flowing through the battery but INA700 is reading the current as zero or some floating numbers.

    2. Here in our bench level setup, we are using a DC power supply instead of a solar panel in which we are able to see current flow which is not properly being read by INA700.

    3. Steady state which I mean is when no current is flowing or only a small amount current like 100mA.

    Could you please provide a complete readout of INA700 raw register values in hex, including the die ID register, for me to debug this issue further.
