THS4551: Design for ABZ Encoder

Part Number: THS4551
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Team,
Here's an optimized version of your text:

"The customer is designing an ABZ signal system using the THS4551 to convert single-ended signals to differential outputs for a Linear Motor Encoder application. The RD confirmed that the design works correctly for SIN/COS signal inputs (A/B). However, when a square signal (Z) is applied, the output waveform becomes abnormal.

Specifications:

  • Type: Single-ended input to differential output converter
  • OPA Bias Power: 3.3V
  • Input Signal Level: 0 - 3.3V (Square signal)
  • Output Signal Level: +/-1Vpp (Square signal)
  • Application: Linear Encoder
  • Freq: 100KHz

Attached is the simulation design." Screenshot 2025-12-22 155841.png

  • Hello Brian,

I will build up a copy of this circuit to simulate in TINA-TI and provide the results and my findings here.

Please note: the THS4551 FDA is only rail-to-rail on the input when swinging low to VS-, the THS4551 FDA cannot swing to VS+ at the inputs.  The outputs are rail-to-rail.

Please try using a 5V supply in simulation to see if the issue resolves.  You can review the input common-mode range for the THS4551 FDA in the device datasheet.  This information can be found in the electrical characteristics table.

    Best,

    Alec

  • Thanks Alec and i'll check with customer if 5VCC is acceptaible in their system or not! And we looking forward your sim result.

  • Hello Brian,

Hope you had a good holiday; I will await an update from your customer & make progress on the sim.

    Best,
