AMC3311: Cross Current Requirement

Hello, I see in the design application for this part, there is an imposed requirement of <100uA through the resistor divider. I don't understand why this would be imposed by the AMC3311 component, is this just to minimize power dissipated in the resistor divider? or is there another function I'm not seeing?

I would think having a stiffer divider (higher current) would ensure that the input leakage of the chip doesn't cause error in the voltage measurement.

  • Hi Peter!

    From the perspective of the AMC1311, the only limitation is on the 0-2V input.  Table 8-1 is simply going through a design example where we put arbitrary numbers in place to help minimize the power dissipation and determine the value of the resistors in the divider circuit.  If you don't have power limitation issues, you can certainly change the iCROSS to whatever you want so long as you maintain the 2V MAX input level at the AMC1311 input.
