TL026: AGC Gain block

Part Number: TL026
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMH6505

Hi,

I am Hari from Honeywell, Bangalore. I am looking for replacement for AGC block for ML1350 part for my current design. can you please suggest any part that should operate from 4 MHZ band to 10 MHz and gain should be 60dB like ML1350. i found TLl026 from the TI products, but the gain is close to 38 dB that is very less when compared to ML1350 gain. Also, in my design i am using ML1350 for modulation purpose also like feeding a 1KHz tone at the AGC input at pin 5 while giving AGC voltage. is it possible to have same provision (feeding 1KHz tone at pin 2) for TL026 also. please let us know, Thank in advance for your help.

Regards,

Hari

  • Hari,

We do not have a direct pin-for-pin compatible device.  Both the TL026 and LMH6505 can be used in AGC circuits, but neither are pin-for-pin compatible.  The ML1350 has a different pin connection, and different specifications (e.g. gain ranges, frequency range, supply range).  The ML1350 is designed to be an IF amplifier for AM radio.  TI does not have an equivalent.

  • Hi Art,

Thank you for the response. Can the IC supports modulating the DC voltage with 1KHZ tone at AGC Pin 2 as shown below?  i will appreciate if you can clarify this. we plan to use this device in our design and looking details. we are operating from 10MHZ to 12 MHz which this IC supports, of course, the gain is less when compared to ML1350.

    Regards,

    Hari

  • Hari,

I believe that this device could support modulating the 1kHz tone.  The data sheet does not specify the AGC gain control bandwidth, but I would be surprised if it could not adjust gain at least at a 1kHz rate.  There is very limited information on this device (released in 1985) and it is not one I have ever seen a support question on.  I strongly recommend that you get a couple samples and use the https://www.ti.com/tool/DIP-ADAPTER-EVM to prototype your circuit and test it out.
