LM5056A: Bidirectional power measurement

Part Number: LM5056A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA228, INA237, INA238, INA740B

Dear Team,

Can we used LM5056A for Bi-directional power flow measurement in case of battery charging and discharging operation?

If no please sueeges the suitable Bidirectional power measurement IC with following specificatio.

  1. Vmax = 60-100V
  2. Imax = 20A (both direction)
  3. I2C communication
  4. GUI suppoet
  5. Fault Pin (OV,UV,OC, Temp)
  6. no aux power requited , should be operated from input voltage
  7. Current sensing = Shunt resistance.
  8. Temperature measurment

Please suggest the solution.

Regards

  • Hello Pankaj,

Thank you for using the TI forum. The LM5056A is unidirectional only, so it will not work for your application.

    Here are some recommended alternatives:

    • INA228 Family
      • Devices: INA228 (20 bit), INA238 (16bit), INA237 (16 bit, budget version of INA238).
      • These devices have an external shunt resistor, so you can adjust to current range based on the shunt.
      • These also come in automotive grade (-Q1).
    • INA740B (16 bit)
      • This is an integrated shunt device, so the current range is fixed, but fits your requirements.

All of these devices have an EVM platform with a GUI for testing, and an integrated temperature sensor.

    Regards,

    Mitch
