AMC1301: Academic project - component recommendation and sample support for power measurement system

Part Number: AMC1301
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO224, ADS131M04, , AMC131M03, TIDA-010244, AMC-ADC-1PH-EVM

Hello TI team,

I am an Electronics Engineering student at Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN FRBA), Argentina, currently developing a university project involving a three-phase power measurement instrument for power electronics systems, with potential application in wave energy systems.

The project requires isolated voltage/current sensing and analog front-end design for real-time power calculations under non-sinusoidal conditions.

I am currently evaluating TI solutions such as AMC1301, ISO224 and ADS131M04, and I would appreciate your recommendation regarding the most suitable devices for this application.

Additionally, I would like to ask whether sample support or academic support is available for this university project.

Thank you very much for your guidance.

Best regards,
Enzo Belmonte

  • I would recommend the amc131M03 chip. It is commonly used in 3-phase electricity measurement and has voltage and current sensing capabilities. It also has integrated analog components to simplify the analog front end design. The AMC-ADC-1PH-EVM evaluation module is a good place to start as it is a fully complete design. I would also recommend checking the TIDA-010244 reference design. If you want to tell me more about your sensing needs I can give you more specific information.

I would recommend getting in touch with our customer support team about getting academic samples.

  • Hello TI team,

Thank you very much for your detailed recommendation and valuable technical guidance.

The AMC131M03, AMC-ADC-1PH-EVM, and TIDA-010244 reference design all seem highly relevant to my application, and I truly appreciate your suggestions.

To provide additional context, this project is part of my Electronics Engineering degree at Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN FRBA), Argentina. The goal is to develop a modular three-phase power measurement instrument for power electronics systems, focused on non-sinusoidal waveforms and variable-frequency operation, with potential future application in wave energy conversion systems.

The system will measure isolated voltage and current signals, perform real-time digital power calculations (active, reactive, apparent, and distortion power), and validate the results against a professional power quality analyzer.

Given this scope, I would like to ask whether academic support may be available for this project, particularly in the form of engineering samples for devices such as the AMC131M03 and/or evaluation hardware like the AMC-ADC-1PH-EVM, since access to these devices would significantly support the experimental validation stage of the project.

Additionally, if Texas Instruments offers any university program resources, development kits, promotional materials, or educational merchandise (such as stickers or lab materials), I would be very happy to receive them and proudly use/share them within our university electronics community and laboratory environment.

I would also greatly appreciate any further recommendations regarding the sensing chain or overall measurement architecture for this type of application.

Thank you again for your support and guidance.

    Best regards,
