LM319-N: Operation outside specified temperature range

Part Number: LM319-N
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM119

Hi Team,

My customer needs SOIC-14 package device to replace a similar high speed comparator from competition. The LM319-N seems to be teh only device we have in this package. Do wehave other options in this package?

Also, LM319-N is specified for a temperature range of 0 to 70 °C, and does not fully meet customer application. Could you explain what happens when it is used outside this range, specifically from −20 to 90 °C?

Thanks, and regards,

Obinna

  • Hello Obinna,

    I assume they want a pin-2-pin replacement.

Sorry, but we do not have the SOIC package in the extended temp ranges. They would need the LM119 (-55 to 125C).

Legally we cannot comment on what the device will do when operated outside of the datasheet parameters.

But take a look at the graphs...and be reminded that operating outside of the datasheet specifications voids any TI warranties. The customer would assume any risk to operate beyond the stated operating range (0 to 70).

The LM1/2/319 design is almost 60 years old. There are much more current devices. Are they willing to update the design? They may need to if they can't find replacements. We would need to know about the application before we could recommend a replacement.
