OPA860: OPA860 overheating issue

Part Number: OPA860

hi expert

I am currently using the OPA860IDR for peak hold. During the debugging process, I noticed that there was abnormal overheating of the OPA860 upon power-on, with a current of up to 200mA and a temperature of 80℃, even without any input signal. The actual circuit diagram is as follows. C4 is 100nF, R2 is 49.9ohms, and U3 is the discharge switch.
Could you please confirm which aspects might cause this problem

  • Hi Ian,

Could you please try the following and report back the Iq:

    • Change the L1 and L11 with 0 ohm resistors
    • Do not populate R1
    • Do not populate D1 or R6

Could you also tell me why pins 2, 3, 8 were connected as such? I wasn't able to tie it to any examples seen in the datasheet.

    All the best,
    Carolina

  • Hi Ian,

What kind of peaks are you trying to detect? And what is connected to the output going down in the schematic?

I'm not able to replicate a large current draw in simulation. Depopulating components like Caro suggested can help isolate what the potential cause.

    Thanks,

    Evan
