OPA192: Power up ramping

Part Number: OPA192

Hello Team,

If one power supply ramps up much faster than another, for example, the VS- can reach -16V and stay stable in 10ms, while the VS+ need 150ms to reach 16V , will this affect the performance of the OPA192 in its subsequent operation ?

Thanks and Best Regards,

Lee

  • Lee,

    • As long as you do not violate the absolute maximum specifications, the part will not be damaged and the subsequent operation will not be effected.  It does not should like anything you are doing will violate the absolute maximum specifications so I do not expect an issue with subsequent operation.
    • You should not expect normal operation during the power supply ramp.  Your output may be indeterminant but within the power supply bounds during the ramp.
    • During the supply ramp, at some point the supplies will be inside the specified operating range.  At this point the output should be roughly the expected output based on the instantaneous value of the supplies and input signal.
    • For all analog systems I recommend including TVS diodes on the power supplies.  This can help protect the op amp and other devices sharing the supply rail.  In some cases this can also help with supply sequencing / ramp rate issues.  How to Protect Op amps from Electrostatic Discharge & Electrical Overstress Damage covers this topic in detail.

In summary, I don't think you will have an issue, but I do recommend adding TVS diodes on the supplies.

    Best regards, Art
