OPA627: Replace OPA627AP with OPA828DIR?

Part Number: OPA627
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA828, , TINA-TI

Hello,

I need to replace an operational component OPA627AP, which however is discontinued.

Is the OPA828DIR the correct substitution? Is there any difference I should know?

Thank you

Paolo D'Agosta

  • Hi Paolo,

Yes, we recommend replacing the OPA627 with the OPA828. The main difference of note here is the slew rate and gain bandwidth (GBW). It's possible you might need to change the stability compensation in your circuit to account for the higher bandwidth of the OPA828. If you have concerns, you can share the circuit here and I can help do a stability analysis.

Below is a high level comparison between the OPA627 and the OPA828. Please let me know if you have further questions.

    Best regards,
    Carrie

  • Hello Carrie,

Thank you for your reply. I attach the relevant portion of the instrument circuit schematic. It is part of a larger and complex machinery, so I'm not sure if you can help with the stability analysis, but it would be greatly appreciated.

I will in any case share the technical comparison with the manufacturer to have their opinion as well, so thank you for that too

    Best regards,

    Paolo

  • Hi Paolo,

Did the customer already try replacing the OPA627 with the OPA828, and they are now seeing 0V on the output? The amplifier is in a buffer, so using the OPA828 should not cause any issues unless there is a capacitive load on the output that is not shown in the above schematic.

The RC filter on the non-inverting node is quite large. If I run the setup in TINA-TI, it takes about 2 seconds for the output to settle.

Please let me know if the customer has further details they can include.

    Best regards,
    Carrie
