How to INA230

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA230

Hi, I am interested in design a system to measure DC power. The voltage to measure is between 2.7 to 4.2 Vots and the current between 1uA to 200mA.

Could I use the INA230 IC?

What resistance value must I use in order to make good use of the whole range? In the example use a shunt resistor of 2mOhms but the current to measure is 10A, so the Vin+ - Vin- = 20mV

I think that I've to use a resistor of R=(Vin+ -Vin-)max/Imax=80mV/250mA= 320mOhm. Is it right?

Thank you so much, best regards.

  • Hello Oscar,

There are a couple of challenges that you will have with this design. First, the load current range is too large for a single linear device. Therefore you will have to develop a system that utilizes multiple devices/gains.

Secondly, the lower end of your current range (1uA) is 1/10th the input bias current of the INA230. Therefore you should consider a low-Ib device for the smaller load currents.

Please let me consider this more over the next couple days and get back with you.
