I currently am designing my student project around wind energy and using the LM2917 as the frequency to voltage converter. This will allow me to use a LM358 with a NPN transistor to switch on and off a triac to dissipate any excess energy. This is the prototype phase, so I am looking at simplifying my design, cut some cost, and board space.
Looking at the connection diagram or test circuit & waveform in the datasheet for the LM2917, it looks like one side is a frequency to voltage converter and the other is a comparator op amp with a transistor switch.
My questions:
Would it be possible to use the comparator & switch as a schmitt trigger?
If so, what is the response time and maximum input/output voltage for the comparator & switch
