Programmable Gain INA

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PGA204, PGA117, PGA281, PGA280, PGA113

Kindly suggest a programmable gain instrumentation amplifier. The gain should be selectable as 1,10,100 and 1000.

I am currently considering PGA204.Can it be used for single supply operation?

  • Dilbagh,

Technically, any amplifier can be used single-supply as long as the constraints for input and output voltage are met. For the PGA204, the input voltage must stay 2.3V away from either supply rail and in the input common-mode voltage should remain centered at mid-supply to maximize the output voltage swing. Also, the minimum supply voltage of the PGA204 is 9V, at this supply level, the usable input voltage range will be +/- 2.2.

Unfortunately, the gain settings of 1, 10, 100, and 1000 are unique to the PGA204 in our portfolio. One option would be to use the PGA113 or PGA117 with a pre-amplifier in front set for a fixed gain of 5. The downside of this approach is that it would no longer be possible to achieve a gain of 1. Placing a pre-amplifier with a gain of 8 in front of the PGA280 or PGA281 would allow for gain settings of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1028.
