TLE2141 Spice Model

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLE2141, OPA378

I have a customer who is using the TLE2141 in one of his designs, but the the Spice model does not have the pin designation for the offset pin.Customer is intending on using the TLE2141 in a 0-30VDC variable Power Supply with adjustable current and is trying to simulate the circuit but the Spice models did not contain the offset pins. The way his circuit is configured, these pins allow for the adjustment for the voltage output to reach 0V nomatter the tolerances of the rest of the components. Is there a way toaccomplish this or is there a more suitable model he can use? Aslo I checkedthe datasheet for this device and on page 2 it says that the offset optionis available only on TLE2241x device, is this a typo?

  • Hi Shibu,

The TLE2141 has an older style, Boyle simulation model. It is a behavioral model that doesn't include all the internal devices or make all the external connections such as offset-adjust pins. Therefore, there isn't any way to access an internal offset-adjust function.

About the closest the customer can come to adjusting the offset and use the TLE2141 model is to add a voltage source in series with one of the operational-amplifier inputs. The output voltage will shift with the applied source voltage following the inverting, or non-inverting gain conventions. However, this added source voltage will be multiplied at the output by the 1+Rf/Ri, where Rf is the feedback resistance and Ri is the input resistance - regardless of which input the voltage source is added. Again the polarities must be observed to move the output in the desired direction.

The source voltage value and polarity can be varied in the simulation to null the inherent voltage-offset of the TLE2141 simulation model. I've added a PDF file showing the concept applied to an OPA378 CMOS amplifier. I would have used the TLE2141 model for the demonstration but it has such high voltage-offset and bias current that it makes it a little more difficult to illustrate the concept.
